Troubleshooting for Iron Filters and Water softener/Iron Filter combo
(Preventative Maintenance)
Injector Screen and Injector
The injector is the component which creates the vacuum necessary to draw the brine into the water conditioner.
Clean the injector and injector screen at least once a year in order to maintain proper operation of the water conditioner. Some locations may require more frequent injector and screen servicing.
Refer to figure (1) below and complete the following steps to clean the injector screen and injector.
1. Shut off the water supply or put the bypass valves (2) into the bypass position (quarter turn clockwise) and remove the rear cover.
2. Relieve system pressure by opening the rinse drain valve (the fifth valve back from the control or the large or third valve from the back) with a screwdriver.
3. Using a blade screwdriver, unscrew and remove the injector screen and injector cap.
4. Clean screen with fine brush. Flush with water until clean.
5. Using a needle-nose pliers, pull the injector straight out.
6. Flush water into the injector screen recess of the valve body to flush debris out through the injector recess.
7. Clean and flush the injector. Lubricate the o-rings on the injector, injector cap, and injector screen with silicone lubricant.
Reinstall the injector (small end first), injector cap, and injector screen
IMPORTANT: Do not over tighten the plastic caps. Over tightening can cause breakage on the plastic cap which may not be evident immediately. Seal lightly into position.
NOTE: Petroleum based lubricant (Vaseline) will damage the plastic valve and o-rings.
8. Slowly open the water bypass valves (quarter turn counter clockwise).
MAINTENANCE – Brine Tank and/or Potassium Pot should be cleaned minimum once a year!
BRINE TANK
Disconnect
Rinse out with water
Put back together
POTASSIUM POT
Disconnect 3/8 line from valve
Take it outside and rinse out
Reconnect to valve
Add water so it is 2 inches above bottom
Add 2 cups of potassium permanganate KMN04
MAINTENANCE FOR CHLORINATION SYSTEMS
RETENTION TANKS:
Once a week, drain the tanks until sludge is flushed out; you can put a garden hose on the end of each tank to flush.
Run for 3 minutes, shut off valve, and repeat.
Do this approximately four (4) times for each tank, or until clear.
PUMP:
Do not run reservoir dry.
Pump should be set around 3 or 5, or higher, depending on quantity of water usage.
If at 5, the water quality is clear, the chemical may be turned down to 4.
If clean water is consistent, you may try turning the pump down to 3.
If the water is not as clear as desired at 3, turn pump back to 4.
FILTERS:
Backwash every third day.
The carbon filter should be re-bedded every 3 to 5 years only if necessary.
FREE CHLORINE TEST STRIPS:
When testing chlorine at test tap, it should read between 1.5 to 2.
Instructions for Cleaning AWS/ABR Systems
Should be done once or twice a year
Should be done during the day
DO NOT USE WITH AUTOMATIC IRON FILTERS USING POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE
Step 1: IMPORTANT:
A. GET IN A VENTILATED AREA
B. USE A MASK
C. TRY NOT TO BREATHE IN FUMES.
Step 2: Add Red Slave in ice cream pail.
Dilute with HOT water, mix until no lumps.
M III use ¼ bag
M IV use 1/3 bag
M V use ½ bag
Step 3: Remove Brine lid and brine well cover, add the red slave mixture.
Step 4: IMMEDIATLEY put unit in regeneration.
This mixture will clean the sight glass, brine tank, tubing, injector, screens and mineral bed itself insuring clean water and proper operation.
If solution is not drawn into valve then check the injector
NOTE: varying degrees of water contamination will dictate how frequently this should be done.
NOTE: During regeneration water SHOULD NOT be used.
PLEASE SET VALVE TO REGENERATE SAME NIGHT
